Meet the Hekati - Dark Warriors of Malazhiim

The Hekati are the merciless warriors of Malazhiim and the Khan Kymihr. During the Great Wars, the Hekati swore allegiance to Malazhiim and were gifted dark powers for their loyalty to him.

Here is a short passage when Tarun first sets eyes on a Hekati warrior.

The largest of the monsters stepped forward. It was the size of two men, its thick muscular body half covered in dented, scratched armour. Tarun gulped when the creature turned and looked at him. It had five white eyes, each with blood-red pupils. The two on either side of its flattened nose brimmed with aggression, while two others – one at the base of each of its orange-painted horns – moved independently, their gaze roving around the hall. Its fifth was an oversized circular eye at the centre of its forehead, bordered by black and orange streaks of war paint.

These are the Hekati … The realisation that the horrors in front of him were the Khan’s warriors hit Tarun like a heavy blow.

‘Your majesty,’ the leader growled, revealing rows of blood-stained teeth filed into sharp points. They were framed by an anvil-like jaw lined with short protrusions of bone. ‘The traitors.’

The Khan raised himself slowly from his throne. ‘Very good, Darzog.’

‘Bilaj,’ Darzog barked back, thumping his chest in salute.

Tarun noticed Darzog’s bulging arms were wound with lengths of rusted barbed wire that pierced his leathery skin. Each metallic thorn was thick with the creature’s congealed black blood. The monster walked up to the Khan and held out his hand. In it was a glistening curved dagger, its colour deeper than midnight.
